Prior to putting the patient in the headrest of the instrument, the chin and headrest should be wiped with an alcohol swab or a tissue placed on the chin rest. The patient should be seated comfortably and the instrument adjusted to the height of the patient. The patient is asked to rest their chin in the chinrest and to bring their forehead tight against the headrest. A common mistake is for the patient to be too low (instrument too high) and for the patient’s forehead to be away from the headrest.
